I liked "Hummingbird Heartbreak,"the first book in the series about geek adopted twin Dusty and expected that his more athletic, charismatic brother Benji would toss us a few serious scorchers--but not in the way it happened.That's because the scorcher comes in the beginning and involves Rex Madison, who's the best friend of the Golds' brother Maverick and who had a brief, and suddenly calamitous ending, fling with Benji in Costa Rica six years ago.When Rex, with the help of Maverick, escapes to the family's wild animal sanctuary in the middle of Georgia, his sudden appearance shocks Benji to his core and from there on he and Rex do dances with themselves, animals and the own deeply flawed psychoses to try to discover why Benji is so angry at Rex for their break up.The result is a book full of frustrations for Benji and Rex, which alternate with scenes full of passion. The denouement is pretty shocking in some respects but the whole situation leading to its revelation is well handled and I can't wait for the next book to come along. Was it Rex's imagination that his best friend's younger brother, Benji, hadn't been into him, because he sure seemed on the same page when they kissed in Costa Rica, then he ghosted him back home so maybe it wasn't meant to be. Six years and a lot of living later and he finds himself back with Benji's family and realizes the strong feelings are still there, but are they still one-sided? Being a politician's son makes you question everyone's motives and intent. Hiding away from public shame makes you even more sceptical that anything will work out the way you hope.
